About The Walker River
The Walker River starts in the Sierras. The east fork flows into Bridgeport Reservoir in California with the remainder joining the west fork at the south end of Mason Valley in Nevada. The west fork flows along Hwy. 395 in California north of Bridgeport and south of Walker where fishermen can be seen during the season. It is partially diverted into Topaz Lake just before the Nevada border and the remainder flows into the Smith and Mason Valleys. Yerington is a small city in Mason Valley. Smith Valley is dotted with farms and ranches. It’s water is responsible for giving rise to these agricultural communities. Eventually, small amounts flow into Walker Lake.
